Atiku Picks Ifeanyi Okowa As VP Candidate

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has announced Delta State governor, Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa, as his running mate for the 2023 presidential election.

Atiku made the announcement on Thursday afternoon at the PDP national headquarters in Abuja.

He said one of the considerations for Okowa’s choice was his suitability to succeed him after his tenure in office if eventually elected as president.

“I am delighted to announce Governor Ifeanyi A. Okowa as my Vice Presidential candidate. I look forward to travelling our great country together, engaging with all Nigerians and building a shared future of peace, unity, and prosperity for all,” Atiku said.

Okowa, a medical doctor, rose from the ranks in Delta politics. He has served as Local Government Chairman, State Commissioner, Secretary to Delta State Government and Senator representing Delta North.

His nomination today puts to rest many days of anxiety within the party over who would be tapped for the position of Atiku’s running mate.

The rumour which made the rounds in the past 2 days was that Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike had been tapped for the position.
