The Edo State House of Assembly has impeached the state’s deputy governor, Comrade Philip Shaibu.
The Assembly impeached the deputy governor on Monday after it adopted the report of a seven-member probe panel set up to probe allegations of gross misconduct against him.
The impeachment follows months of speculation over his political future, after open disagreements with Governor Godwin Obaseki.
The Assembly had accused Shaibu, among other offenses, of leaking the state government’s secrets and committing perjury.
Against expectation, Shaibu had contested the last governorship primaries in Edo State, even when Obaseki had reportedly chosen Mr. Asue Ighodalo for the position.
