Motorists using the shaft-defective Hyundai vehicles across Nasarawa State risk being arrested and their vehicles impounded if sighted.
This followed the manufacturing defects of some brands of Hyundai Motors and the subsequent directive by the headquarters of the Federal Road Safety Corps in Abuja for the recall of the affected brands to avoid road casualties.
Consequently, FRSC, Nasarawa State Command, Tuesday, briefed transportation stakeholders on the development, and the urgency to comply with the safety directives.
Our correspondent reports that the meeting was convened by the state Sector Commander, Corps Commander Lucie Samuel Mhii, in Lafia, with the officials of the Nasarawa State Government House Fleet and Safety Department, executives of the National Union of Road Transport Workers and Road Transport Employees Association of Nigeria; private car owners as well as other fleet operators in the state in attendance.
The state sector commander told the stakeholders that, “The meeting aimed to inform stakeholders about the recall of specific Hyundai Motor Company models, I10NIQ 5 (NE) and I10NIQ 6 (CE), produced in 2023, due to manufacturing defects related to weak drive shafts.”
The stakeholders, it was gathered, were successfully informed about the recall and the potential impoundment of the affected vehicles if sighted.
The sector commander stressed the importance of compliance with the RTSSS annual certification programmes for fleet vehicles and drivers to ensure driving proficiency.
Those in attendance commended the sector commander for the prompt briefing, and promised to comply with the safety directives.
