Yahya Emerges NUJ President


Comrade Al Hasan Yahya has emerged the National president of Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ.

Yahya, the immediate past National Vice president secured a total of 437 votes to beat two other contestants, Mr Bamidele Atunbi, the immediate national treasurer, who polled 97 votes  and Muhammad Garba, zonal trustee of NUJ, who polled 39 valid votes in the just concluded 8th Triennial National delegates’ conference held in Owerri Imo state.

Also, a Deputy Director with Radio Nigeria, Mrs. Abimbola Oyetunde emerged as the Deputy National President of the union unopposed while Mrs Ronke Afebioye Samo from Ekiti State Council was  re-elected unopposed as the Vice President Zone B.

Other National Officers of the Union  including the National Treasurer, Comrade Victor Ndukwe, who was the former Abia State Council Chairman were returned unopposed.

The election, which was conducted amidst tight security had Comrade Mike Ikeogwu as the Chairman of the electoral Committee and was presided over by the Representative of the NLC President, Joe Ajaero.

Prior to his emergence as the President of NUJ, Alhassan Yahaya was a former Council Chairman of the Gombe State chapter of the union.
