Enugu State House of Assembly on Tuesday passed into law the 2025 budget appropriation bill of N971. 84 billion presented by the state governor, Barrister Peter Mbah.
It is the largest budget in the state’s history.
Chairman of the House Finance and Appropriation Bill Committee, Hon. Anthony Nwankwo, representing Awgu South constituency, who presented the committee’s report, said that the committee had earlier engaged the state’s ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) for budget defence.
Hon. Nwankwo stated that the committee, after engaging the MDAs, observed that no amendment was found in capital and recurrent expenditure proposals as presented by the governor.
The committee recommended and encouraged the lawmakers to approve the bill and give it accelerated passage into law so that their collective objective in the task will be fruitful, for the good of people of the South-Eastern state.
He commended his colleagues for their enthusiasm and dedication to their assignments.
The Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Uchenna Ugwu, in his speech after the passage of the bill, advised all the house committee chairmen to ensure they take their oversight function “very seriously.”
He noted that they have given the Executive the authority to use the state’s resources, urging the latter to ensure that Enugu citizens get value for money.
