An Oyo State High Court siting in Ibadan, the state capital, on Tuesday, January 7, denied the bail applications of a former wife of the Ooni of Ife, Naomi Silekunola; chairman of Agidigbo FM, Alhaji Oriyomi Hamzat; and the principal of Bashorun High School, Abdullahi Fasasi.
Their bail applications are now to be decided on January 13,2024.
The trio is facing charges related to the tragic children’s festive party held in December 2024, which resulted in a stampede that claimed the lives of at least 35 children.
The suspects were represented in court by Alhaji Waheed Olajide, Musibau Adetunmbi, SAN, and Adekunle Sobaloju, SAN.
Counsel to the suspects had filed applications for bail before the court.
Presiding over the matter at Court 8 of the High Court on Ring Road, Ibadan, Justice K. B. Olawoyin adjourned the bail applications till next week, following a plea by the leader of the prosecution team, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice of Oyo State, Professor Oyelowo Oyewo, SAN, for more time to conclude investigations.
The development followed the submission by Oyewo that the state government should be given more time to investigate the matter further.
The suspects are under investigation for the event that led to the stampede at a party held at the Islamic High School, Bashorun.
The court resumed hearing of the bail applications on Tuesday under heavy security.
The suspects are currently being remanded at the Nigerian Correctional Centre, Agodi.
