200,000 Insurgents, Families Surrender -Zulum

Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has disclosed that over 200,000 insurgents and their families had surrendered since government adopted non-kinetic procedures to try to end insurgency in the state.

He spoke on Monday, January 20, after being decorated with the fellowship of Society for Peace Studies and Practice (SPSP), at Government House, Maiduguri, capital of the North-Eastern state.

The decoration was performed by the society’s president, Nathaniel Msen Awuapila, assisted by Professor Isaac Oluwale Albert, who represented the Chairman of its Board of Trustees (BoT).

These were contained in a press release issued on Tuesday, January 21, by the governor’s media aide, Abdurrahman Bundi.

Responding, Gov. Zulum expressed gratitude for the honour and assured his commitment to partnering with the society to achieve sustainable peace and development in the region.

He noted that the non-kinetic steps had continued to yield positive dividends.

The brief event was witnessed by Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Bukar Tijani; Head of Service, Barrister Mallam Fannami; and the Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor, Dr. Babagana Malumbe.

Others were Vice President of SPSP, Professor Jude Momodu; the Secretary General of SPSP, Dr. Lanre Yusuf; members of the Borno State Executive Council; senior government officials, among others.

Meanwhile, SPSP has announced a plan to commission a study on the positive impacts of Gov. Zulum’s administration on people of the state.
