A crucial meeting is underway involving President Bola Tinubu, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Barrister Nyesom Wike, Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara, and several Ogoni leaders at Aso Rock, Abuja, Nigeria’s seat of power.
Both Wike and his political godson and successor, Gov. Fubara, have been at loggerheads since late 2023 over control of the soul of the oil-rich South-South state.
However, it appears the meeting has to do with the Federal Government’s bid to resume oil production in Ogoniland.
It could be a case of using one stone to kill two birds as Tinubu may use the opportunity to, again, wade into the political crisis in the state.
Ogoni leaders from four Local Government Areas (LGAs) were sighted ahead of the parley.
Among Ogoni chieftains seen were Senators Lee Maeba,Benneth Birabi and Magnus Abe; there were also Olaka Nwogu, Victor Giadom, Kenneth Kobani, Monsignor Pius Kii, Leedum Mitee; Barry Mpigi, and Prof. B. Fakae.
On the Federal Government side were National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu; Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; Minister of Information and National Orientation, Idris Mohammed; Environment Minister, Balarabe Abbas; Minister of Regional Development, Abubakar Momoh; Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO),Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mele Kyari.
