NYSC Swears In 2,095 Corps Members In Enugu

National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) on Friday, January 24, swore in 2, 095 corps members of the 2024 Batch ‘C’ Stream 2 set deployed to Enugu for the mandatory one-year national service.

NYSC Coordinator for the state, Mrs Oluwakemi Awolola, who spoke during the ceremony at the NYSC Orientation Camp, Awgu Local Government Area (LGA) in the state, said that the corps members comprised 829 males and 1,266 females.

Congratulating them, Awolola urged the corps members to participate in all the activities in the camp as indiscipline would not be tolerated.

“Your assessment of your service year start right from the camp; you must obey the rules and respect camp officials as indiscipline would not be tolerated.

“The NYSC orientation programme is designed to instill the core values of national service and adequately prepare you for significant responsibility you will face in the coming month,” she warned.

The coordinator applauded Enugu state Governor Peter Mbah for revamping the NYSC camp clinic and additional sinking of borehole to enhance the camp environment.

Also speaking, Gov. Mbah urged the corps members to contribute significantly to national development through various initiatives, including elections, anti-corruption campaign, health initiatives and environmental conservation efforts.

Mbah, represented by Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Professor Chidiebere Onyia, said that the state government was committed to providing conducive environment for the corps members.

“In Enugu State, we are committed to supporting the NYSC and contributing to the sustenance of its gains.

“We have commenced the renovating of the orientation camp and providing critical infrastructure to ensure a conducive environment for your training,” he said.

Administering the oath of allegiance to the corps members, the Chief Judge (CJ) of the state, Justice Raymond Ozoemena, urged them to adhere to rules and instructions and stay out of any kind of criminal activity.

Ozoemena, represented by Justice A C Ogbuabor, urged them to avoid anything that would extend their one-year programme.

Chairman of Awgu LGA, Mr Uchenna Okolo, who also spoke, assured the corps members of adequate security in the camp.

“All the security agents in Awgu are at alert at all times,” he stressed, adding that the governor had put a proper check in terms of security in the state.
