Terrorists Planning To Attack Huge Gatherings In Kano, Police Warn As Tension Rises

Suspected terrorists are planning to attack large gatherings of people in key areas of Kano, North-West Nigeria, police have alerted.

This was contained in a public alert issued on Friday, January 24, by the State Police Command.

According to the police, the plot came to light following intelligence gathered by the combined ferreting of both the police and sister security agencies.

In a statement signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Superintendent of Police (SP) Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the police called on residents of the heavily-populated state to avoid crowded places for precaution sake.

Kiyawa said: “The Kano State Police Command in liaison with other security agencies has received intelligence reports of suspected terrorists planning to launch attacks on public gatherings in strategic locations within Kano State.

“In response, we hereby urge residents to exercise caution and avoid crowded places and environments until further notice as a preventive measure to enable security operatives identify and dislodge possible attackers.”

Additionally,he stated, the Command has deployed specialized police teams, including experts from the Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) and Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) units to strategic locations across the state.

“The teams were on high alert and can be contacted through 08169884988 or 07067157218 for reports of suspicious persons or items.

“We encourage residents to report any emergency or suspicious activity to the nearest Police Station or contact the Kano State Police Command through the following emergency numbers: 08032419754, 08123821575, 09029292926,” the statement added.

Reassuring residents of its commitment to maintaining peace and security in the state , the police insisted that actions are being taken to prevent possible attacks.

“The safety and security of Kano residents remain our top priority,” Kiyawa stressed, urging residents to cooperate with the authorities over possible supplementary steps to protect the state.
