Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant in the 2026 election in Ekiti State, Otunba Peter Obafemi, has consoled Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State on the demise of his elder brother, Engr. Sunday Makinde, who passed on at 65.
Obafemi, in a statement signed by OPO Media Vanguard and made available to journalists, said he was saddened by the death of the elder Makinde, whom he described as “a peaceful, humble, God-fearing and exceptionally patriotic Nigerian, who played essential roles in the development of Oyo State.”
He added: “Particularly, he was a pillar of support to Governor Seyi Makinde in his effective services to the good people of Oyo State.”
According to Obafemi, “Sunday Makinde’s selflessness and unwavering commitment to the development of Ibadan, and Oyo State in particular, derived from his affinity with his younger brother, Governor Seyi Makinde, in his exemplary leadership and sacrificial roles towards the unity, stability, and development of Oyo State.
“I deeply share in Governor Makinde’s pain at this moment of grief, knowing the anguish of losing a very close and dearly beloved elder brother.
“I sincerely commiserate with Governor Seyi Makinde, Sunday Makinde’s wife and children as well as the government and people of Oyo State for this irreparable loss.
“We pray to God to comfort his family and grant his soul a peaceful repose.”
