Training and retraining of staff members of any organization inject critical revitalization of knowledge and energy for the achievement of set goals, aside imparting fresh competencies.
For the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), the government of Nigeria’s national capital, these tools are indispensable to engender a better society and general happiness.
The Education Secretariat (equivalent of State Ministry of Education) of FCTA is set to host a two-day training for Vice-Principals (Academics) of its many secondary schools.
In line with global and national economic demands, the training will focus on Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education.
A statement issued by the Secretariat on Saturday, February 15, and made available to PeopleandPolitics.net, said the training will take place on February 18-19, 2025, at the Nigeria Building and Road Research Institute (NBBRI), Abuja.
According to the statement, the initiative “is part of the ongoing efforts of the Brunel Team in the Education Sector of the FCT, which has been embarking on various training programs in line with entrepreneurship values, to positively impact both teachers and students.”
It added that the team, led by Director/Secretary of the FCT Secondary Education Board (SEB), Dr Sani Ladan, has consistently emphasized the importance of entrepreneurship knowledge for economic independence and societal development.
It quoted Dr. Ladan as saying that “entrepreneurship is a gateway to self-reliance and a tool for positively impacting society. It is crucial for educators to embrace and promote these values to transform our education system and prepare students for the future.”
He urged participants to be ready to change the narrative by integrating entrepreneurial skills into their schools and daily lives and commended FCTA for providing the opportunity for training at Brunel University, United Kingdom (UK).
Since their return, the team has continued to create significant, cascading impact in teaching and learning environments across the FCT.
The training program will feature sessions on critical topics such as Understanding Entrepreneurship Education, Leadership for Entrepreneurship, Stakeholder Engagement, Resource Mobilization, and Curriculum Development.
Dignitaries expected at the event include Minister of State, FCT, Dr Mariya Mahmoud Bunkure, who is expected to present the opening remarks at the event; while FCT Secretary for Education, Dr Danlami Hayyo, is scheduled to deliver the special remarks and keynote address.
Also expected to grace the occasion are Directors from FCT Universal Basic Education Board (UBEB) and the FCT Department of Science, Technology, and Innovation.
“Through this initiative, the FCTA aims to equip Vice-Principals with the skills and knowledge needed to foster entrepreneurship education, preparing students for self-sufficiency and economic growth,” the statement noted.
