Following the successful completion of zonal preliminaries, the Barrister Nyesom Ezenwo Wike Renewed Hope School Sports Festival 2025 enters the conference stage.
This was disclosed by Director, Department of School Sports, Education Secretariat (equivalent of Ministry of Education), Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), Malam Hashimu Adamu.
Speaking at the end of the first phase, Adamu explained that the next stage will resume on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, with two major conferences.
According to him, they are the Western Conference, featuring teams from Abaji, Kwali, Gwagwalada, and Tunga Maje with the
venue being Government Secondary School (GSS), Gwagwalada; and the
Eastern Conference comprising teams from Kuje, Tudun Wada, Dutse, and Karu who will slug it out at Government Secondary School (GSS), Garki, Area 10, Abuja.
The director further disclosed that only the winners of all games, except athletics, from each zone will compete at this conference stage.
For the Eastern Conference’s senior school football (girls) category, Government Day Secondary School (GDSS), Karu, Fosla Academy, ADSS Maitama, and GSS Kubwa will represent their zones,the director disclosed.
He stated that GDSS Karu boys’ team will be in the Eastern Conference after they defeated Fosla Academy boys’ team.
The director added that all athletics events are billed to take place from Monday, February 24-Thursday, February 27, 2025.
Qualified athletes from the eight zones are expected to resume camping on Sunday, February 23, 2025 at the Department of School Sports office, Utako, while the cricket tournament will hold at MKO Abiola National Stadium,Abuja.
Malam Adamu said the stadium’s cricket pitch will host junior and senior school teams.
Participating schools include Government Senior Secondary School (GSSS) Maitama, GSS Garki, GSS Karu, ADJSS Asokoro, GSS Jabi, Junior Secondary School (JSS) Jabi, and Government Girls Secondary School (GGSS) Dutse.
The director listed other schools as GDSS Karu, JSS Durumi, GGSSS Kuje, GSS Kuje, GSS Tudun Wada Wuse 4,GSS Zone 3 and JSS Area 10.
Apparently delighted with the performances of each school, Malam Adamu expressed profound appreciation to the Minister of FCT, Barrister Nyesom Wike, for what he described as his unwavering commitment and tremendous support for the development of school sports which,he noted continued to make President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda a reality in FCT’s education sector.
He also thanked the FCT Mandate Secretary (equivalent of a State Commissioner) for Education, Dr. Danlami Hayyo, for his dedication to ensuring all sporting programs hold as scheduled and for his continued encouragement of participating teams across the various zones.
