Green Time Initiative Unveiled To Boost Wildlife Conservation Finance


A ground-breaking initiative, Green Time, has been unveiled to promote wildlife conservation finance and sustainable environmental practices.

The unveiling came ahead of activities to celebrate the World Wildlife Day, an annual event held March 3 every year.

The theme of this year’s edition is ‘Wildlife Conservation Finance: Investing in People and Climate’.

Speaking in a preparatory meeting ahead of the program, Coordinator of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Tourism Volunteers Network, Dr Charity Akpomgbo, said the initiative seeks to create awareness, foster strategic discussions, and drive action toward conservation efforts in Nigeria.

She explained that the program is expected to positively impact people and communities, urging all stakeholders and volunteers to actively participate in any given tasks and contribute innovative ideas to expand the program.

Unveiling the various activities lined up by the body, Dr. Akpomgbo said Green Time is a collaboration between a government body, National Park Service, a firm, Icherry Travels and Global Concept Ltd., and Tourism Volunteers initiative for sustainable development.

She said: “It will take place on Monday, March 3rd to mark the Wildlife Day being celebrated annually; at 10:00 am at the National Park Service, Abuja.”

The Coordinator noted that the program will feature panel discussions, video clips on wildlife, a guided tour, arts exhibitions, and a quiz competition.

Dignitaries expected at the landmark event include the Minister of Environment, Malam Balarabe Abbas-Lawal; Minister of Tourism, Art and Culture, Hannatu Musa Musawa Esq; and Senators chairing the Committees on Ecology, Climate Change, and Tourism.

Others expected are Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun; conservation experts, and tourism stakeholders.

Dr Akpomgbo explained that the program, which will focus on youth engagement, climate action, and sustainable conservation finance, seeks to make a lasting impact by empowering the next generation to take charge of environmental protection and wildlife conservation.

She called on all stakeholders, environmentalists and conservation enthusiasts to bring their wealth of experiences to bear and make a significant impact in promoting wildlife conservation finance in Nigeria.

The Coordinator encouraged the various team leads and volunteers to intensify their efforts towards ensuring a successful program.
