Gloom enveloped the Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University, Makurdi (JOSTUM), Benue State, as four female students of the institution were abducted by gunmen.
The students were abducted from within the university premises between 8:30pm and 9pm on Tuesday, February 25 this year.
The university was formerly known as Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi (FUAM).
A university source told Peopleandpolitics.net that the students were going for night studies when they were kidnapped between their hostels and the North Core area of the school campus where they were heading to.
The source named the victims as Emmanuella Oraka, Fola, Susan and Ella.
It was gathered that news of the abduction immediately sparked serious protests from the students, who marched around the school clutching tree branches in their hands and demanding immediate action from the university authorities.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Benue State Command, Chief Superintendent (CSP) Catherine Anene, confirmed the incident when contacted, but stated that only two students were kidnapped.
So far, there has been no official reaction from the institution as the authorities promised to get back to journalists.
