Sokoto Varsity Lecturers Call Off Indefinite Strike

By Rosemary Ameh, Sokoto

Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) of Sokoto State University (SSU) has announced the suspension of its indefinite strike.

The decision was made after a congress held on Thursday where the ASUU members reviewed the outcome of a conciliation meeting between the state government and ASUU leadership.

ASUU SSU Chairperson, Saidu Abubakar, and Secretary, Hassan Aliyu, stated that following thorough discussions on the government’s proposal, its members voted to suspend the strike.

The Union said the National Executive Council (NEC) of ASUU subsequently granted approval for the action, allowing academic activities to resume without delay.

“All members are directed to resume work immediately.

“While the specifics of the agreement remain confidential, the suspension marks a significant step toward addressing the union’s concerns,” the Chairperson and Secretary disclosed.

The strike, which began on February 26, 2025, stemmed from unresolved issues with the state government.
