Colleagues Launch Appeal For Alimi, Journalist Suffering Kidney Failure


Friends and colleagues of Abubakar Alimi, a journalist based in Lokoja, Kogi state, have launched an appeal for funds to enable him undergo kidney transplant.

The Publisher of Kogi Express, the leading community newspaper in Lokoja, Kogi State, is presently on admission at the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, Gwagwalada in the Federal Capital Territory.

His colleagues, Sheddy Ozoene, Dada Ahmed and James Oyewole are appealing to public-spirited individuals and organizations to come to his assistance.

For the past five months he has been down with kidney failure and now admitted to the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital in Gwagwalada where a kidney transplant was recommended.

The 60-year-old father of five does not have the N10m required for the transplant. The hospital’s Consultant Nephrologist, Dr. MH Mamven has already intimated the State Governor, Yahaya Bello, through a letter dated 18th January 2022 of the urgency of his condition.

An appeal has also been made by the trio to Smart Adeyemi, a journalist, and Hon. Leke Abejide who represent Alimi in the Senate and the Federal House of Representatives, respectively.

For now he is undergoing dialysis every 48 hours and that is only possible because friends and colleagues have been making contributions.

Of recent, his schedule for dialysis are no longer maintained because there’s no money to pay.

This is therefore to appeal to public spirited individuals for financial assistance for him to continue the dialysis and ultimately undergo the expensive but all-important kidney transplant.
