Chukwuemeka Ezeife, Former Anambra Governor, Is Dead


Former governor of Anambra State, Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezeife is dead. He was aged 85.

A statement from the family signed by Chief Rob Nwakaire Ezeife said the former governor died about 6pm on Thursday at the Federal Medical Centre, Abuja.

“On behalf of the Ezeife Dynasty of Igbo-Ukwu, I wish to announce the promotion to glory of our most distinguished son, Okwadike, Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezeife,CON, a former Federal Permanent Secretary, first Executive Governor of Anambra State, a former Political Adviser to the President and former Presidential Aspirant.
“This sad event took place yesterday at 6pm at the Federal Medical Centre, Abuja.

“More details about the deceased and  arrangements for his State Burial will be announced later.”

Late Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezeife was elected Governor of Anambra State in the third republic from January 1992 to November 1993.

Ezeife held the traditional title of Okwadike Igboukwu and is remembered, among other things, for his strong defence of Igbo interests.

Ezeife obtained a BSc in Economics from the University College Ibadan, and a masters and PhD degrees from the prestigious Harvard University.

In 1999 he was appointed special adviser on political matters by ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo.
