Alison Madueke Seeks To Restrain Former Oil Minister, Diezani, From Bearing Madueke As Surname

By People&Politics

Rear Admiral Alison Amaechina Madueke (rtrd), former chief of naval staff, is seeking a High Court in Lagos State to restrain his former wife, Diezani Alison-Madueke, from using his first name (Alison) and surname (Madueke) following the dissolution of their marriage.

Our correspondent reports that Mrs Alison-Madueke, a former Nigerian minister of petroleum, is formerly married to Rear Admiral Alison Madueke.

In a suit No. LD/15144HD/2024, the former naval chief said they stopped living together in May 2015 after her ministerial appointment.

Findings show that Diezani in November 2021 filed suit No. NSD/MG345/2021 before the High Court of Nasarawa State for the dissolution of the marriage. Justice A.A. Ozegya consequently dissolved the marriage between the couple on April 13, 2022.

But after the dissolution, Diezeni, with maiden name Kogbeni Agama, continues to use her marital name even after the dissolution of the marriage.

Madueke said he formally notified through his solicitors (Messrs Foundation Chambers) in a formal letter dated December 14, 2023, that Diezani reverted to her pre-marital name (Diezani Kogbeni Agama) following the legal dissolution of the marriage.

According to the retired naval chief, referring to the former petroleum minister as Diezani Alison-Madueke portends a misleading impression, thus tarnishing his reputation, integrity and public image.
