The immediate past Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, has been arrested. Obiano who handed over the mantle of leadership to Prof. Charles Soludo in Awka today, was arrested by the Economic and Financial crimes commission, EFCC at the Lagos airport at about 8.30pm. The former governor who was about to board an international flight was on his way to Houston, Texas, USA. It could not be ascertained at press time if his wife and children were travelling together. Though Professor Chukwuma Soludo has another 24 hours before he assumes duty as Anambra State Governor, he has, nevertheless, received handover documents from the outgoing governor, Chief Willie Obiano. A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered Governor David Umahi and his deputy, Dr. Eric Igwe to immediately vacate office as governor and deputy governor of Ebonyi State. Justice Inyang Ekwo in his judgment held that by defecting from the Peoples Democracy Party (PDP) on which they were sponsored and elected as governor and deputy governor of Ebonyi State to the APC, a political party that did not win the election, they had resigned or are deemed to have resigned from office.
